On this page you’ll find a set of practice materials designed to help you improve your listening and comprehension skills in Spanish.

First, you’ll find an introduction about the format and structure of the practice materials.

1- What’s the structure of these practice materials?

This bundle of practice materials includes 3 types of content: text, audio and video.

.

Overall structure of audio contents:

1- Review each Paragraph

  • First, we’ll go over each paragraph in Spanish

  • Next, we’ll go over each sentence in Spanish, English and Spanish again

  • Then, we’ll go over the same paragraph in Spanish one more time

  • We’ll repeat the same process for each paragraph

2- Review the entire article in Spanish at normal speed

3- Review the entire article in Spanish at a faster speed (and practice at a Pro level)

 

Notes about Audio Files:

Since the main purpose of these practice materials is to help you understand spoken Spanish, the audio files are the most important element of each set.

.

You can listen to each audio file on this page and download them to your phone to practice during the day.

 

Notes about PDF Transcripts (Text version)

The PDF transcripts contain a text version of the accompanying audio files so you can read along as you listen.

Feel free to save this text file to your phone or print it to read along during the day as you practice. It is particularly useful when you listen to the entire article in Spanish so you can read, pause and make notes when needed.

Notes about Videos:

Each video is a combination of text and audio designed to streamline your practice experience and make things easier for you in the beginning.

In these videos you’ll be able to listen to the audio file as you read a transcript on the screen at same time. This will help you improve your comprehension and pronunciation simultaneously (hit play and pause as much as needed)

Here’s a sample of what the videos look like (this sample has no sound):

 

2- What’s the best way to use these practice materials?

Every student is different, and it is important that you find a practice sequence that works well for you.

.

However, the practice sequence I suggest you follow is to start by watching the video version so you can read along as you listen to the audio content a few times.

.

After that, I suggest you continue practicing with the audio file on your phone and print of the transcript file so you can have “text training wheels” in case they are needed.

.

Next, you can continue listening to the audio file on your phone as you go about your day without reading the transcript.

.

If you are doing something that would allow you to listen to music while you do it (such as walking, shopping, cooking, driving, exercising, etc.) then, you can use that time to practice your Spanish. No excuses! =)

.

Finally, when you feel you are ready for it; you can skip the preliminary practice and fast-forward to the section where the full article is read in Spanish at normal speed.

 

Next Level Practice…

…and… when you feel ready for a challenge, you can fast-forward and practice by only listening to the section where the article in Spanish is read at a faster speed.

The key is patience and kindness (with yourself!)

.

This is as a self-paced practice method with different levels of difficulty, designed to empower and challenge you at the same time as you become more confident.

.

What’s most important is that you continue practicing over time.
If you feel a little tired or frustrated after a few minutes; make a pause and continue the next day.

.

Be kind and patient with yourself. As you continue practicing, your brain will adapt and will eventually allow you to understand the full article in Spanish.

.

Don’t push yourself too hard. Just be patient and find a way to make it fun so you continue practicing.

.

Remember, as long as you keep going; success is only a matter of time.
The key is focused persistence. That’s it.
