15 Minute Spanish Listening Mastery

.

.

Finally, an Easy Way to Practice Listening Skills and Understand more Spoken Spanish!

.

How Confident would you Feel if you Understood Spanish Speakers in Real Life?

Imagine how confident you would feel if Spanish stopped feeling so lightning fast and you could understand it.

• Imagine how many more job opportunities and friends you would have if you could understand everyday Spanish.

Imagine how much faster you would improve if you had easy-to-use listening materials designed to help you understand more spoken Spanish.

.

.

Do you understand a little Spanish but struggle to understand native Spanish speakers in real life?

.

If you think something like this:

“Native speakers talk so fast, and I can’t understand what they say. I get so frustrated and feel like I will never understand them.”

.

Let me tell you: It doesn’t have to be like that! THERE’S HOPE!

.

.

.

Why is it so difficult to improve Spanish listening skills?

It’s because most students choose listening materials that are either too easy or way too difficult for their current level.

.

This often happens because it is hard to find practice materials for students who understand a little Spanish but cannot understand native speakers yet.

.

Also, it is very difficult to find practice materials at the right level that are also easy to use, which makes the process time-consuming and frustrating.

.

We’ve all been there at some point while learning a new language.

.

“Stuck in limbo” between TV shows for toddlers that are too slow and things like soccer match narrations that are way too fast.

.

Struggling to find listening materials that are challenging but not exceedingly difficult and frustrating.

.

Then, one day, after listening to several podcasts and YouTube videos (that were either too easy or too difficult), you meet a native Spanish speaker and feel confident enough to say a few phrases in Spanish,

.

The native speaker replies using LIGHTNING FAST Spanish,

.

You draw a blank and proceed to have a silent mini-meltdown, cursing at the gods for your bad luck, not knowing what to do, and wishing you could vanish in thin air like a beer on Cinco de Mayo.

.

It’s SO uncomfortable!!! (it also happened to me when I was learning English. I hated it more than getting a brain freeze while drinking a Slurpee!)

.

.

Over time, I received many inspiring emails from students who motivated me to create practice materials designed to empower them to connect with others. Here are a few of the stories that inspired me the most:

“I work in a hospital, and there are Spanish-speaking patients and relatives that I wish I could help more instead of saying “Lo siento, no hablo espanol.”

“To be more fit for the future job I want to take- Spanish bilingual customer representative in a call center. It’s fun learning the Spanish language.”

“I want to help my children learn Spanish and inspire them” – “I would like to be able to socialize and interact in the office in a casual way. I would like to be able to interact with people.”

“Going Peru to help a church. I will be traveling there for five years. Retired Army Officer. I want to help others.”

“I would love to communicate with non-english speaking migrants to help them assimilate and just find their way to important places. Also, if I am in the grocery store I could help them with finding items and explaining prices. I know most items are labeled in Spanish, but where are they in the giant stores?”

“I want to learn Spanish mainly to keep my brain active… it’s a challenge and gives me something to try to accomplish (I am in my late 60’s). And with the increasing Hispanic population, I want to be able to better converse with my Latin neighbors and team members at work.”

.

Stories like these inspired me to create the learning materials I wish I had when I started learning foreign languages.

.

So I decided to create something to empower students who want to open doors at work and connect with people around them.

.

.

Now, let’s imagine something that could make things much easier for you…

What if you could listen to native Spanish speakers and pause time for a few moments,

.

So you could get the help of an Spanish-English translator speaking in your ear to help you understand the parts you missed,

.

And then go back in time quickly, so you can hear the same Spanish sentence again after understanding the bits you missed?

.

That would make things easier, wouldn’t it?

Well, now YOU CAN TRY IT!

.

I’ve created practice materials that help you recreate that process using digital technology, which does wonders for your listening skills.

.

This is YOUR time to finally understand spoken Spanish gradually, at your own pace.

  • Even if Spanish sounds like “mumbo jumbo”

  • Even if you “don’t have time to study”

  • Even if you have a “bad memory”

These learning materials have been designed to make things easier and help you understand more spoken Spanish, even if you think Spanish is tricky.

.

.

I’ve created the learning materials I wish I had when I was learning English and French so you don’t have to go through the same struggles I went through.

.

Through my personal observations and experience as a language learner and language tutor on three continents (along with lots of research and testing), I’ve come up with a system to help students gradually improve their listening skills, using the Dual Spanish Method and digital technology to make things easier for them.

.

First, you will listen to each sentence in Spanish at a moderate speed,

Then, in English,

And then, in Spanish again at a regular speed to test your listening skills one more time. Comparing it with your first will help your mind fill in the gaps. This will connect the pieces together to help you understand more Spoken Spanish.

.

It’s like having audible training wheels for your Spanish listening skills!

.

They help you gain confidence as you practice without falling over or making the process exceedingly frustrating.

.

.

Finally, we will go over the same content one more time at a regular speed, only in Spanish, to give you a chance to test your comprehension one more time.

.

You will get access to 1 new Dual Spanish Listening Session per week, alternating between everyday conversations (about social life, work, travel, etc.) and articles about Latin American culture using real human voices (no AI voice shenanigans here.)

.

Each weekly Session will include:

  • 1 Video with on-screen text so you can read along as you listen (about 15 minutes long)

  • 1 MP3 audio so you can listen on your phone during the day (same audio as the video)

  • 1 PDF text transcript so you can print it and make notes or read it on your phone while you listen

.

Each listening session is about 15 minutes long, so it’s easy to find time to practice during the day. However, you can review each session as many times as you need.

.

.

Here’s the recommended sequence for reviewing each listening session for optimum results: (However, you don’t have to do it all on the same day. Find your own pace and optimize for consistency easy for you.) by making thing

-Step 1: Watch video 1 without reading the text, try to understand as much as possible, and only read the sections that are very difficult to understand.

-Step 2: Watch the video 1 or 2 times as you read along while you listen.

-Step 3: Listen to the audio 1 or 2 times while doing your daily activities and try to understand as much as possible (commuting, exercising or walking your dog are good opportunities to practice.)

-Step 4: If you find you need a little extra help, read a copy of the transcript while you listen to the audio 1 or 2 times (making notes and funny doodles is encouraged!)

-Step 5: Continue listening to the audio a few more times during the week, until you are able to understand all of it in Spanish.

.

.

Although this is the recommended sequence that works best for most students, these learning materials have been designed to be flexible, so you can customize the sequence to optimize for your personal learning style and daily activities.

.

If you prefer to start by listening to the audio first, and review the video only when needed, that’s okay too!

.

To make things easier, the first sessions will be a little slower, and the next sessions will gradually become more challenging to allow for a natural progression.

.

As you continue to practice, you will also learn new words and phrases related to social life and workplace scenarios, as well as diverse topics about Latin American culture that will help you start conversations and keep them going.

.

In other words, We’ll start easy and will gradually make things more interesting. (It will be fun!)

.

.

xxxxxxxx.

Many happy students use these learning materials to practice during their daily commute when they exercise, or while walking their dog (prancing is always encouraged!)

.

“What version of Spanish is this? European or Latin American?”

This course focuses on the Spanish spoken in Mexico (I’m a native speaker.)

.

I recommend you focus on Mexican Spanish if you live in the American continent or plan to visit Latin America. It is the country with the largest population of native Spanish speakers in the world and is one of the biggest producers of entertainment materials in Spanish.

.

In general, Mexican Spanish is spoken at a slower pace than Spanish in other countries like Spain, Argentina, Venezuela, or Cuba. Furthermore, a large majority of Spanish speakers who live in the United States are of Mexican origin.

.

So, if you plan to visit, or you happen to live in the U.S., or you work with companies from the U.S., it is the version of Spanish you will most likely encounter.

.

However, focusing on understanding the Spanish spoken in one specific country first will not prevent you from understanding or communicating with Spanish speakers from other countries.

.

Just as with the English spoken in the United States, Canada, England, or Ireland, the biggest variations are found in the regional accents, local words, slang, and regional expressions, but the underlying foundations are very similar.

.

Understanding other accents is much easier when you’ve worked on a foundation to understand spoken Spanish with a specific accent first.

.

.

“Does it work? What do other people think about this?”

Yes, it works! Here are a few testimonials from students who’ve tried the Dual Spanish Method in the past:

.

“This program is very useful. After trying several different ones over the years this has been the best one by far. While other programs have been helpful, and I learned from them, Spanish for Your Job gets to the pertinent material without a lot of unnecessary information.

Being able to read along while listening allows me to separate the Spanish words, all while improving my spelling and reading skills.

The lessons are also a great way to learn about the culture, history, and current events. I’ve never come across a program that includes so much. Please keep up the great work. I’ll be spreading the word to all my interested friends.”

– Amy B. – Reading, Pennsylvania

.

“I have tried many methods of improving my Spanish speaking and understanding, including watching videos of other teachers.

I have found these Spanish For Your Job materials especially helpful because: 1) The topics are interesting, and the dialogues are especially good for practicing real-life conversations; 2) The English translation immediately after the Spanish phrases gives me immediate confirmation of my interpretation of the phrases; and 3) The consistency in the format combined with the brief amount of time it takes to listen make the lessons easy to fit into my day.

I would recommend these materials because listening to the radio or TV in Spanish does not give you the feedback that is needed to gain confidence in your comprehension of spoken Spanish.”

– Stephen M. – Accountant – San Antonio, Texas

.

“I have been using practice materials from Spanish For Your Job for over a year now, and it has been the best online practice guide that I have come across.

The fact that the practice material is not hours long makes it a perfect fit for my busy day. On a quick lunch break, I can use my phone or tablet to access a 15-minute lesson and feel confident that in that small time frame I have learned something new.

One of the main reasons I enjoy Spanish For Your Job is the fact that the lesson is Spanish to English and back to Spanish again. This technique helps with retaining the information and it allows you to see exactly how much you are actually comprehending.

Last but not least, one of my favorite characteristics about this Spanish course is the fact that it is taught by someone who actually cares if you are learning and wants you to succeed.

I feel lucky to have stumbled upon this course and I now can’t imagine trying to conquer the Spanish language without it. It has been just over a year and I honestly feel that my skills have improved tremendously. ¡Gracias Señor Lira!”

– Jana S. – Teachers Aide (middle School) / Child Care Associate – Inland Empire, California

.

“My level in Spanish is intermediate and I am very glad to have been using the Spanish for your job materials on a daily basis, because since I do not have much free time, it helps me practice and refresh my Spanish by devoting only 15 minutes per day.

Learning a language is about time and repetition. The Spanish for your job materials offer information for a variety of different subjects and in a very efficient way -including repetition and translation from English to Spanish and viceversa- It makes you get used to listening and correcting the mistakes.

Overall, it has helped a lot to improve my skills and vocabulary and since I am working as a PR, being good at languages is one of the greatest assets for my job, and surely these practice materials have helped my fluency a lot and have boosted my confidence while I’m speaking.”

– Alina M. – Public Relations Officer – Athens, Greece

.

The Spanish For Your Job audios and transcripts helped me with a big hurdle in learning Spanish. Understanding Spanish in “real time” when listening to a Spanish speaker is difficult for a number of reasons. The speaker may speak rapidly, not speak clearly or speak with an accent.

I am learning new words every day. Even if I am following the speaker, he or she may say a word or a grammatical construction that I do not know and I lose the context of the message. In real time conversations, I have to listen and understand at the same time I am formulating my response.

These audios and the accompanying materials focus on the issue of understanding Spanish when spoken.

The audios and PDF formats allowed me to learn in different settings. Before I go on long trips, I load audios and the transcripts onto my phone. A delayed flight now provides time to learn and review. The more I hear and read, the more comfortable I am speaking Spanish. Repetition is a good thing for me. The Spanish For Your Job package gave me instant repetition to burn the words and phrases into my brain.

.

“What about other alternatives I can try on my own?”

We are all adults here, so let’s talk straight.

Of course, there are other options you can try, and some of them could be a good fit for you, depending on your priorities, resources, and time availability.

.

Here are the 4 main types of costs to consider:

  • Financial costs (how much money will be required)

  • Cost in terms of time (how much time you’ll need to devote per day, per week, and how long it will take for you to see results)

  • Willpower and frustration (the amount of mental energy and willpower needed)

  • Opportunity costs (the cost of not doing something else that could have given you better results.)

.

Here are some of the most common alternatives you could try:

1- Language learning apps (they can help with the basics, but they are slow and limited)

2- Podcasts for kids or for native speakers (These can take a very long time because they’re often too easy or too difficult and frustrating.)

3- Hiring an online tutor (This can work, but you are limited to 1 or 2 hours per week, and need to be able to schedule in advance.)

4- Visiting a Spanish-speaking country for an extended time (This often works well but requires a lot of time, money, and travel.)

5- Keep doing what you’ve been doing.

.

Doing nothing different is always the most straightforward option, but it comes at a high cost. It usually costs A LOT of time.

.

If you continue doing the same things, how will your Spanish listening skills be in six months or a year?

.

How many more years are you willing to invest in doing the same things that haven’t worked well so far?

.

How many more doors will remain closed at work for not understanding Spanish?

.

How many more opportunities to connect with those around you will go by?

.

In other words, doing nothing is an excellent option if you want things to stay the same way they’ve been.

.

Take a moment to think really hard about how much every week you don’t take action is costing you.

.

If you want things to stay the same. Be my guest; you have a right to do so.

.

If you do have the time and budget to take off for several weeks to a Spanish-speaking country, I encourage you to try it, but here’s why these listening materials are right for most students:
